AYAANS FILMS EDITOR/CINEMATOGRAPHER

At Ayaans Films, I was an editor, photographer, and videographer too. Throughout my experience here, I was taught many things about the wedding industry and editing in general. I was given a disciplined method of editing. The training I received is an important part of my editing discipline today.

February 2018 - June 2018

STUDIO ONE MEDIA EDITOR

Prior to joining Ayaans Films, I had my first taste of the wedding industry with Studio 1 Media whom I edited for. I worked as a freelance editor here, focusing on dealing with clients and providing customer service which would satisfy and please customers.

October 2016 - November 2016

AMPERSANDS PROJECTS

My time working with Ampersands Projects consisted of voluntary work as a photographer during their 2016 run of the Green Lungs Project. This was my first exposure to behind the scenes photography and my first approach into the media industry while being a first year student at university at the time.

ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE

What have I learned?

BA MEDIA & COMMUNICATION

September 2016 - July 2019

At Birmingham City University, in the city center of Birmingham, I have studied Media and Communication for three years. During this time I have completed twenty different modules in connection to Media. This includes TV production modules, which have taught me about the inner workings of TV programme production and studio etiquette. I have worked on location too, which has tested me in my ability to work as a camera operator on purposely built sets. I have worked as editor on several occasions, allowing me to learn how to cope with pressure and how to focus on the job at hand.

I have also worked extensively on other aspects of shoots, including controlling of lighting and sound checking. During my first year of university I had the opportunity to work in a TV Studio Program called "Blink". For the show itself I was handling the studio/house lights and cameras too. I have also learned how to use the auto cue and the vision mixing desk. This also gave me experience in how to use the "talk-bac" communication system which came in handy during my short tenure in directing a short scripted test show called "Please Don't Stop The Music".

In my first year I produced a video for my Music Industries group, which highlighted all the events of a gig event which we had organised. I both filmed and edited the entire sequence. It was also in my first year of university that I worked on producing my first slapstick comedy silent film, called "Autumn Falls". Impressively, as my first ever production project of any assignment that I produced it was given a "First". It was during this first semester in which I also edited my first documentary. A four minute piece on diversity, named "Diversity (stylised as 'dIversity'). This piece received a 2:1, however I believe this was important for me to learn from.

In my third year of studying Media in university, I worked as an editor to produce "Flatmates" with my group. This edit was made with the directors careful instructions and vision being employed, which was a challenge. The conflicting visions of the writer of the narrative and the director certainly was a challenge, however, it served to result in an amazing project. I also worked as a camera operator for my final group production project of the year before my individual final year project. The show (called "Typically Unconventional") was where I found my favourite lens, the Sigma 85mm Prime Lens, Canon Fit. I believe that this lens combined with the might of the Canon EOS 6D is what I found truly astonishing. This project was awarded a first.

A-LEVEL MEDIA STUDIES

September 2014 - July 2016

During my time as a college student, I was enrolled to study three A-Levels in order to gain entry into my chosen university for further study. One of three A-Levels that I chose to study was Media Studies. During my first year of University, I was able to learn about the codes and conventions of generic and genre specific music videos. This enabled me to produce my coursework at the time, which was to create a Music Video whilst adhering to codes and conventions. I scored top marks as an editor in my group of four. My coursework also required written research and analysis of this. I also designed my own CD Album and explained all the choices made when designing it, including an explanation of the minimalistic approach and the interesting space age/neon colour palette.

In my second year of studying Media, I was required to produce a full feature film trailer, whilst also producing a written analysis of research with two examples of pre-made film trailers as references/sources. Once more, I was editor and this time around, I created a trailer which scored top marks, second to only one other trailer in my class! My trailer lost marks on its show of narrative structure, which admittedly was not strong or easy to convey, considering the taboo subject my trailer was made on. This was included in my evaluation of the trailer, which scored me marks as I gave myself fair and unbiased feedback.

GCSE MEDIA STUDIES

September 2011 - June 2012

In school, I chose Media Studies as an optional GCSE to help me pursue my early ideas and fascinations in Media. For this qualification, I completed an exam and associated coursework too. The coursework assessed my practical ability in production by having me create and produce a magazine cover and an article within. The exam tested my written ability to show my understanding of Media elements, and terminology. I was required to give an extended response on my analysis of a film - Pirates Of The Caribbean:On Stranger Tides (2011). I was award a GCSE Qualification in August 2012, with a grade of B, thua convincing me that I should continue to pursue my passion in Media.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Advanced

I have advanced skill in Project Management, with the habit of completed tasks earlier than needed, to give time for final checks and tweaks. This is particularly useful for production projects, when editing for an example.

TEAM WORK

Efficient

Given my branding, I believe that teamwork and collaboration is essential to help any media professional get further and more advanced in their craft. Thus, I have practiced to work with others, receiving and giving back information as I go along. I believe that teamwork is 100% efficient in production work, especially when at a high chemistry level, where all members act accordingly and play their part within the team.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Excellent

My ability to serve and satisfy customer is excellent, as I am able to use my skills in communication well. I believe that communication is what drives any project, especially in planning out tasks and in relaying information between the team and the customer too, who I believe should always be worked with. Good customer service ensures that the customer is comfortable and well aware of each and every aspect to do with the project, it is after all what they pay for.
